West Point, Mississippi is located Clay County and has a population of about 13,000 people. The city is situated in the eastern portion of the state and is part of the golden triangle region, which is comprised of Columbus, Starkville, and West Point. The city serves as the county seat of Clay County and received a municipal charter in 1858 after the establishment of the Mobile & Ohio Railroad.

West Point is filled with many things to see and do. The city hosts the annual Prairie Arts Festival in its downtown area. The festival is recognized as one of the top ten events to attend in the south and is one of the largest art festivals in the country. West Point is also home to the Old Waverly Golf Club. The course’s landscape and grandeur take visitors back in time to the Old South and is known as one of the best courses in the country. The Waverly Mansion is located a few miles from West Point. The mansion was built by Colonel George Hampton in 1852. The plantation upon which the mansion stands once served a self-sustaining community. Visitors are welcome to tour the mansion.

West Point is located in a humid subtropical climate. Winters in the area tend to be very mild. Temperatures remain the low to mid-50s during the day on average. However, freezing temperatures and snow are still possible in the area. Residents should prepare themselves for the winter seasons by investing in a furnace or heating pump.

Summers in West Point are generally warm and humid. Thermostat readings during the months of June, July, and August can reach well into the 90s.  Residents will find it wise to invest in a cooling system to keep indoor temperatures comfortable during the warmer months of the year.
