Hamilton, Mississippi is an unincorporated community located in Monroe County. The community has a population of 540. Tronox, the third largest titanium dioxide manufacturing facility in the world, has operated in the community for more than 50 years.

Hamilton served as the county seat of Monroe County until it was replaced by Aberdeen in 1830 after the county was split to form Lowndes County. Hamilton’s original location sits east of the community. The community was likely moved to its new location when the Kansas City-Memphis-Birmingham Railroad was built in the 1880s.

Hamilton is served by the Monroe County School District. The community is currently home to one school, Hamilton School, which serves students K-12.

Hamilton is located in a humid subtropical climate. The community’s winters are usually mild and experience cool temperatures. Winters in Hamilton are also usually very wet. Average daytime temperatures during the months of December, January, and February range from the upper to lower-50s. At night, temperatures in the community often dip into the low-30s. Residents will find it wise to invest in a heating system that is capable of keeping indoor temperatures comfortable during the cooler months of the year. Also, residents should have their heating systems inspected each season by an HVAC technician to ensure they are operating at their highest potential. 

The warmer months of the year in Hamilton are June, July, and August. These months tend to see plenty of rain and are usually very humid. The month of June has an average rainfall of about 4 inches.  Daytime temperatures during the warmer months of the year often remain in the mid-80s and low-90s. Residents should invest in a cooling system that is capable of withstanding plenty of use. During the warmer months of the year, a cooling system could literally be a lifesaver.
