About Vernon, AL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Vernon, located in the northwestern section of Alabama, serves as the county seat of Lamar County. Vernon also served as the county seat of Lamar County’s two predecessors, Jones County and Sanford County. Vernon was incorporated as a city in 1870. According to the 2010 United States Census, Vernon has a population of about 2,000 people, qualifying Vernon as the largest city in Lamar County. The name Vernon is of French origin, meaning “place where alder trees are growing.”

Although Vernon is a smaller city, there are many things to see and do within a short distance. The city is about 70 miles southwest of Bankhead National Forest. The forest is full of beautiful scenic views and has many activities to offer such camping, picnicking, birdwatching, and much more.

Vernon is home to many notable individuals. Reuben Houston “Rube” Burrow, a famous outlaw in the 1880s, was from Vernon. Major league baseball players Terry Moore, Dixie McArthur, and Guy Morton were born in Vernon. Also, William Hall Smith, president of Mississippi State University, was also born in the city.

Vernon is located in a humid subtropical climate. The city experiences very warm, humid summers and mild winters. Thermostat readings often climb into the mid-90s during the summer months. Residents should invest in a reliable cooling system to keep indoor temperatures comfortable. Residents should also have their cooling systems inspected by a professional to ensure they are operating at their highest potential.

Although winters in Vernon tend to be mild, cold snaps and snow are still possible. It will be necessary for residents to have heating systems capable of withstanding plenty of use. Maintaining proper maintenance on these systems will be necessary to ensure they are prepared for use every season. During the colder months of the year, these systems can literally be a lifesaver.
